Okay, so.
I almost didn’t do this playlist. Even though I skipped last week’s playlist. I’ve just been so busy lately, and what’s more, I have been listening to the same two albums over and over and over again. I’ve got ears for nothing else right now. So I waffled for a bit before finally giving in. The people want my playlist, I reasoned. And I must give the people what they want. Even though “the people” in question, here, are in fact imaginary characters I invented just now. Never doubt the make-believe abilities of an only child.
Editor’s note: Below I complain a lot about Mixpod, which was an embedded player I was using at the time I was making these posts. Good thing I came back in the futuristic year 2021 and updated them all to Spotify playlists!
SO THEN! I started working on the playlist. 40 minutes in, I find out that Mixpod has disabled linking to URLs, which means that I cannot host MP3s in my public dropbox and link to them anymore. Which means that my playlist world has just become limited solely to YouTube. Have you SEEN what music is actually available on YouTube? Jack fucking shit. And if they DO have a song I am looking for, 98% of the time it’s some low-quality live version. I’m sorry, but 98% of the time I despise live versions of the original songs I have come to love.
In summary, I have the anger muchly, and unless I can find another option I may end up dropping this playlist thing altogether. I’m sure all “the people” will be enormously upset by this news. But in the meantime, here is what I cobbled together, based on my two current musical obsessions. One of them is a remix, because as I may have mentioned above, I couldn’t find the original version and MIXPOD NEEDS TO DIE AN UGLY DEATH. But it is not a bad remix! I sort of like it, even! There you go: a half-hearted endorsement from me is as good as gold.
Now that I have COMPLETELY SOLD YOU on what I am listening to, here it is. Bear Hands and LCD Soundsystem.
P.S. – I had a great paragraph written in my head about how delightful it is to tell people that you have been “listening to a lot of Bear Hands,” and how I try to drop it into every casual conversation possible, but it was completely erased by anger. Thank you for destroying my creative process, STUPID MIXPOD DIE DIE DIE.

AGREED on mixpod, lady. i started using grooveshark…and LOVE it. so easy to use…and they have everything.
i go through this as well…where my ears refuse to be reasonable…they just want what they love…and i’m with you on the bands above, fucking rad as usual.
So. You have probably noticed that I haven’t put together a play list in a few weeks. It’s because trying to get wordpress and Mixpod to play nicely together required jedi mind tricks and a lot more patience than I have.
Also, I’ve been busy with that annoying wedding to-do list. Less than six months to go. How the eff did that happen?
I’ll check out grooveshark. Hopefully we’ll be back next week. I’ve got to get on our wedding playlist, anyway.
I can’t wait to get home so that I can listen.
Have you ever tried grooveshark.com? It’s a site that lets you search for music and make playlists, just in case your fave site goes down again. π
Oh! I now see that I’m not the only one to suggest this. Obviously grooveshark wins. π
Yeah, totally. I had tried them initially but was automatically turned off when a giant ad flashed across my screen. Gonna have to check it out again for future playlists!
I have to say I have never tried mixpod, but I had to chime in and say thanks for posting LCD! love love love!
Love!
I haven’t put up a playlist in weeks either. I just get this end-of-the-week busy crazy and freak.
love this! did you know my intials (pre marriage) were LCD? it was so badass. now they are LDT, which does not make sense if I just tack ‘soundsystem’ on to the end of it.
